Forest as one of the most important resources on this planet plays a pivotal role in the progress of human civilizations. Forestry studies have always been the hot topic since the naissance of this discipline. With the advent of satellite remote sensing, the forestry studies have made the unprecedented development. This introductory review is intended to introduce the basics of remote sensing in forestry studies, summarize the recent development, and elucidate several typical applications in this area.
