Abstract: The literary production in Italian fostered by non-native Italian-speaking writers has progressively registered, in the last two decades, an increasing number of publications. Besides the quantity, this literature has reached a considerable level of quality. It is no longer translated or co-written by the foreign writer and an Italian co-author, as it was in the beginnings: on the contrary, it has evolved into a literature directly written in Italian. The Italian language is now seen both as an opportunity and as a need through which new voices and new imaginaries establish themselves as new identities. They so provide thematic, linguistic and poetic contributions to an ongoing dialogue with otherness that has characterized Italy in the last decades.
