Product Development Processes: Three Vectors of Improvement
Year: 2004
Type: article
Abstract: OVERVIEW:Product development processes have achieved a state of some maturity in recent years, but have focused primarily on structuring technical activities from the initiation of development to launch. Consequently, major advances are advocated on three fronts: 1) implementing an end-to-end process from the front end through field operations, 2) integrating business considerations much better into the end-to-end process, and 3), incorporating a performance improvement closed loop into the process. The resulting Product Development Business Process has improved business performance in two large companies and a small healthcare start-up.
