Abstract: This article makes a comparison between exegetic practices in China and Europe. Its first purpose is to outline the differences between the analyzed objects; in a second instance, the irreducible aspects of each exegetic tradition are identified. Exegesis is centered in the philosophical texts and the modalities of the philosophical exegesis are examined in both traditions. As these are not monolithic traditions, this investigation includes, both the study of the Confucian philosophy and its development in Neoconfucian philosophy, and —regarding Occidental philosophy— Neoplatonic philosophy as well.
