Sounds and Space
Year: 2009
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: This chapter gives an account of sounds as properties of sound waves and argues that such a view is not inconsistent with the spatial phenomenology of auditory experience. It is argued that when we hear sounds, we hear them where we are. We do not hear them to be where we are, however, because we do not hear sounds to be anywhere. This conclusion follows from the account given of what sounds are, and of the role of space in auditory perception.
