Targeted next-generation sequencing of colorectal cancer identified metastatic specific genetic alterations

Year: 2012
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Background In colorectal cancer (CRC), the third most common cause of cancer and cancer death for both men and women in the USA, the steps necessary for carcinogenesis have been well defined. However, the genetic changes necessary for tumor evolution to metastasis are not as well elucidated. Therefore, we searched for the presence of mutations in key cancer genes in primary and metastatic colorectal cancer to determine whether primary or metastatic tissue is ideal for biomarker analysis and to identify putative biomarkers.
