Abstract: A recent theory developed by Lazear (2002) suggests that individuals mastering a bal-anced set of talents across different fields, the Jacks-of-All-Trades (JATs), have a high prob-ability of becoming entrepreneurs. I investigate whether the JAT Attitude is just an innate characteristic or a skill that can be trained to enhance individuals ’ chances of becoming entrepreneurs. Using panel techniques to control for unobservables, I find that the impact of knowledge in a variety of fields on the probability of being an entrepreneur is either non significant or negative; this suggests that the JAT Attitude is an inborn from of entrepre-neurship that cannot be trained.
