Abstract: The close connexion that exists between upwelling intensity and rainfalllevel makes it possible tentatively to identify-through the rainfall along the Ivory Coast coastal stations-those years when similar events occurred (1921, 1926, 1933 and 1934, 1939, 1947, 1949,_1963, 1968 and 1973; strong anomalous years are underlined).Preliminary analysis of "historical" SST data appears to support this result (Merle 1980).
