Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: A cohort of 295 participants in a county-wide total cholesterol screening conducted in 1972-73 of 7th grade children (ages 11 -14) was followed over a 16-year period to examine cholesterol tracking.Correlations between baseline and follow-up cholesterol were r = 0.44, p < O. OOO1 overall, r = 0 .3 8 , ~ < O. OOO1 for males, and r = 0.51, p < O. OOO1 for females. These correlations compare well with those of the Bogalusa Post High School Study' and of the Muscatine children (ages 11 -12) followed to ages 20-25.2Tracking was greatest at distribution extremes with 37% of males and 45% of females being in the top quintile at both exams.Subjects were classified as risers (rose more than one quintile), fallers (fell more than one quintile), and those stable
