Abstract: Many IT acceptance models assume a positive association will exist between behavioral intention (BI) toward IT use and actual use of the IT.Yet in some cases this relationship is weak or nonsignificant, and models based on predictions mediated by BI lose their value. In this paper I report findings of a weak relationship between BI and IT use in a study that applies IT acceptance models to predict patients' use of e-health.I theorize this weak relationship arises from effects of facilitating conditions that initiate much of the use of e-health.In a post hoc analysis, I propose and test an alternative model that augments TAM with measures of prior use of offline health services and structural need. Results of this test indicate that these measures can dramatically improve predictions of initial e-health use.
