Abstract: Information communications technology has been a focus of the work of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) since 1970, when this organization was formed in Canada with the goal of helping to improve the health of people in developing countries (http://www.idrc.ca). In this article, we focus on the field of telemedicine in developing countries and its role in improving health, using examples from the experience of the IDRC.
