Trade and Growth: Why Asia Grows Faster than Latin America

Year: 2007
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: It is already an accepted stylized fact of international development that Latin American countries (LACs) grow at more modest rates than the Asian exporters of manufactures. It is also true that the latter countries made a transition to export-oriented growth well before LACs; moreover, they have been considerably more successful in encouraging export growth and in diversifying their output and export mix.
