Year: 2013
Type: dissertation
Abstract: The purpose of this project was to design, identify potential funding sources, \nand write a grant proposal for an intergenerational program that allows transition age \nfoster youth to serve as volunteers with older adults in Butte County, California. A \ndetailed program model was designed, including organizational structure, specific \nactivities for older adult participants and youth volunteers, a strategy for program \nevaluation, and a detailed budget. The proposed program utilizes a novel approach, \nengaging transition aged foster youth as volunteers to assist older adults in the process of \nlife review through storytelling and utilization of digital storytelling. The program???s goals \ninclude decreasing isolation and loneliness among older adults through enhanced \nopportunities for social engagement and life review and increasing self-efficacy among \ntransition aged foster youth through intergenerational exchange and participation in \nvolunteer activity. A search of potential funding sources resulted in identification of \nseveral grant opportunities with criteria closely matching the program???s needs and design. \nA grant proposal was written and the completed work may be used for submission of \nproposals to the identified funding sources for development of the program at the \nCalifornia State University, Chico.
