Abstract: Un concepto tan utilizado en el lenguaje político contemporáneo merece ser útil y pertinente, si se diferencia en forma adecuada.Una revisión de cinco episodios populistas: el ruso y el estadounidense de fines de siglo xx, el latinoamericano de mediados del xx, los de extrema derecha en Europa del último cuarto del siglo xx y los neopopulismos latinoamericanos de la década de los noventa, lleva, para finalizar, a ciertos rasgos generales del populismo. aBstract: This concept is so common to contemporary political language that it deserves to stand out in its usefulness and pertinence.We will review five populists' episodes to learn their general characteristics: the Russian and American one at the end of the twentieth century, the Latin American one from the middle of the twentieth century, the European extreme right in the last quarter of the twentieth century, and finally the Latin American neopopulist of the nineties.
