Emergent unitarity in open quantum systems
Year: 2015
Type: preprint
Abstract: We show that when a generic quantum system is coupled to a rapid succession of ancillas, the system's open dynamics can become unitary, evolving according to an effective Hamiltonian. This phenomenon can be used to simulate a broad family of unitary evolutions, and in many cases, to provide universal control of the system.
