Efeito Da Ingestão De Cafeína Sobre O Desempenho De Força Dinâmica Em Um Teste De Repetições Múltiplas

Type: article
Abstract: Yet few studies were able to evidence the effects of caffeine (CAF) ingestion pre-exercise over muscular strength. The effect of this substance on the anaerobic exercise performance is not well-know, equally the actions mechanisms on this type of exercise are not quite established. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of caffeine ingestion pre-exercise on dynamic muscular strength performance, evaluated through ten-repetition maximum (10RM). Fourteen resistance-trained males subjects ingested caffeine(225 mg) or placebo (PL) 1 hour pre-exercise, in a simple-blind crossover design. They refrained from caffeine intake and strenuous exercise 48 and 24 h, respectively, pre-visit. Initially, resting heart rate and blood pressure were obtained followed by ten-repetition maximum (10RM) testing on the barbell bench press. Once the exercise was finished, the cardiovascular parameters were measured again. Compared to placebo, there was a positive effect (p<0.05) of caffeine on dynamic muscular strength in a ten-repetition maximum (10RM) testing on the barbell bench press (82.7 ± 21.5 kg vs. 84.0 ± 22.1 kg*). Total weight lifted during the 10RM test was higher on caffeinecompared to placebo, however did not reach significance. These results may be important for the recreational and competitive resistance-training adepts, and show the necessity of further investigations in order to clarify the real efficacy of acute caffeine ingestion on dynamic muscular strength.
