Limited dependence of the human sex ratio on birth order and parental ages.
Year: 1971
Type: article
Abstract: The effects of birth order paternal age and maternal age on sex ratio at birth are presented as a reevaluation of data reported by Novitski and Kimball in 1958. The Mantel-Haenszel chi-squared procedure for obtaining unconfounded effects is used. There was a significant negative effect of birth order on sex ratio (p less than .00001). No significant effect on sex ratio was found for paternal age except for a significant negative effect for first births and a slight positive correlation at birth orders 4 or more. There was no consistent effect of maternal age.
