Abstract: The cornerstones for the critical theoretical assessment of educational reality have been the concept of ideology such as it was developed in Marxist literature, especially through the contributions of Gramsci, Lukacs and Althusser.The text seeks to investigate some of the consequences of the redevelopment of the concept of ideology put forth by T.W. Adorne and M. Horkheimer, with a view to attaining a critical reflection on the theme of education.The essay also highlights the ideological function of the cultural industry and of the growing technological orientation within broad segments of society, which directly influence school reality , as well as raising issues that have only rarely been considered to date.
