Abstract: We first calculate the binding energy and the pionic and electromagnetic coupling constants of the lowest-lying $p$-wave heavy baryon doublet ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c1},$ ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c1}^{*}$ in the leading order of heavy quark expansion. Then we calculate the two-body decay widths with these couplings and compare our results with other approaches. Our results are $\ensuremath{\Gamma}({\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c1}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}\ensuremath{\pi},{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}\ensuremath{\gamma},{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma})=2.7,0.011,0.001$ MeV and $\ensuremath{\Gamma}({\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c1}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}\ensuremath{\pi},{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}\ensuremath{\gamma},{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{c}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma},{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c1}\ensuremath{\gamma})=33,5,6,0.014$ keV, respectively. We find that ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c1},{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c1}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{c}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ is strictly forbidden in the leading order of heavy quark expansion. At the order of $\mathcal{O}{(1/m}_{c})$ their widths are 36 and 48 keV, respectively.
