Abstract: A basic screening of the patient’s mental and functional status is part of the diagnostic assessment of dementia. Some of the same assessment measures used clinically are used as outcomes in clinical trials. Cognitive deficits are both core features of the dementia syndrome and progress over time. It is therefore important for both clinicians and clinical investigators to be able to quantify this change over time as well as possible improvements with treatment.
