Understanding the Role of Language in Play Behavior: a Comparison of Children With Adhd and Children With Specific Language Disability
Year: 2008
Type: article
Abstract: by SUZANNE BETH GOROVOY Play assessment shows great promise for assessing both cognitive and affective skills of children with special needs. This study attempted to examine cognitive and affective differences between children with ADHD and children with SLD. It was hypothesized that cognitive and affective differences would exist, and that language ability would impact play skills and/or the ratings of play skills on the APS-P-BR. No significant cognitive or affective differences were found between groups, though findings were in the expected direction for all subscales except Organization. Significant effects for language ability were found across most subscales of the APS-P-BR at p= .05. Future studies will utilize a larger sample size and incorporate changes to the administration and scoring of the APS-P-BR.
