First Steps Towards Implementing an International Training Program in Medical Informatics: The Brazil/USA Project
Year: 2000
Type: article
Abstract: The development of an international training program in any domain is faced with enormous challenges involving language, historical, social, and cultural barriers. Certain training programs may prove successful in the United States, and yet, without significant adaptation, may not be transportable to a developing country with idiosyncratic characteristics, unique health care priorities, and a different heritage, such as Brazil. We are conducting an intemational cooperative program to provide a means by which Brazilian faculty and researchers can obtain training in medical informatics with U.S.-based faculty to complement the training they receive in Brazil.
