Abstract: A large neutron detector containing 96 liquid scintillation counters is described. The detector was used in measuring the threshold cross-section for the reaction pi /sup +/p yields deg pi /sup +/ pi /sup + /n. The counters are 47 cm x 17 cm x 17 cm rectangular Plexiglas boxes filled with pseudocumene based liquid scintillator. 96 four-fold coincidence latch circuits are used to form coincidences between the two phototubes viewing each counter, and record on magnetic tape counter location and neutron time of flight information. Details on the design, construction and performance of the array are presented. (auth)
