Abstract: This contribution describes the process of conversion of the Republican School to the ideas of “New Education,” in the global context of circulation of the French Empire. This article deals with the colonial decline of the Republican School and the way in which pedagogical actors found this an opportunity to experiment pedagogically. In particular, we address this issue by studying the career of Marie-Anne Carroi, a forgotten but fundamental figure of Francophone New Education networks during the interwar period. We highlight how New Education ideas were disseminated and (re)appropriated, and put into practice within the framework of the French protectorate of Tunisia, through unique pedagogical transfers in complex social and political circumstances.
