Abstract: Conjugates of the dinucleoside phosphates ApA, CpA, ApU and CpC (deliberately chosen so that an example of each of the purine-pyrimidine combinations be represented), and of the trinucleoside diphosphates ApApU and ApApC, with bovine serum albumin were used for immunization of rabbits. The specificity of the antibodies obtained was studied by the inhibition of binding of a radioiodinated antigen by different cross-reacting compounds, as well as by the sensitive modified bacteriophage technique.Antibodies of restricted specificity towards diand trinucleotides were present in the respective homologous antisera.Antibodies to the trinucleoside diphosphates ApApU and ApApC recognize the complete hapten.Usually the nucleoside which is coupled to the protein carrier, and not the terminal one, forms the immunodominant portion of the antigenic determinant.
