Abstract: Scientist Mobilization and the Democratic «Intellectuel». The Case of the Dreyfus Affair. Vincent Duclert [71-94]. With the Dreyfus affair, the figure of «intellectuel» emerges in France. These «intellectuels» are not only artists or letteraries (like the most known of them, Emile Zola with his «J'Accuse...! »). They are also scientists. The author describes the modalities of formation and intervention in the public space of this group, based on the valorisation of the «esprit scientifique».
