Programming the Next Generation of Dendritic Cells

Year: 2007
Type: article
Abstract: Cancer vaccine strategies require the transfer of tumor-associated antigens from tumor cells to antigen-presenting cells (APCs) for degradation and presentation of peptide fragments on major histocompatibility complex class I molecules. Dendritic cells (DCs) are the most potent APCs for priming T cells, and they can activate B cells to initiate antibody responses.1 However, DCs have several limitations related to their production, in that they are highly differentiated cells with a limited replicative potential and a short life span.
