Abstract: Although the imagination plays a salient role in the epistemology of the Treatise of Human Nature , it has received far less attention than many other topics. Taking a closer look at the Newtonian analogies Hume employs in his analysis of this faculty – passed over more often than not in this context – enhances the understanding of the origins of his scepticism and reinforces the landmark character of his theory for the history of constructivism.
