Multicritical Behavior in Coupled Directed Percolation Processes

Year: 1998
Type: article
Abstract: We study a hierarchy of directed percolation (DP) processes for particle species $A,B,\dots{}$ , unidirectionally coupled via the reactions $A\ensuremath{\rightarrow}B,\dots{}$ . When the DP critical points at all levels coincide, multicritical behavior emerges, with density exponents ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{(k)}$ which are markedly reduced at each hierarchy level $k\ensuremath{\ge}2$. We compute the fluctuation corrections to ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{(2)}$ to $O(\ensuremath{\epsilon}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}4\ensuremath{-}d)$ using field-theoretic renormalization group techniques. Monte Carlo simulations are employed to determine the new exponents in dimensions $d\ensuremath{\le}3$.
