State of the Art Treatment of Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Year: 2011
Type: article
Abstract: Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) is characterized by negative staining for estrogen and progesterone receptors and a negative assay for HER2. TNBC is typically high grade and is characterized by genomic instability. It is commonly associated with a variety of other immunohistochemical features such as overexpression of EGFR and basal cytokeratins. It is clear, however, that TNBC is not a single disease entity, but is remarkably heterogeneous. However, it remains uncertain as to how this heterogeneity should affect treatment decisions.
