Abstract: The impulse response of the RCA C-70045 photomultiplier has been recorded over a range of anode bias voltages. The shape of the impulse response and its dependence on anode bias voltage is explained. Appropriate choice of anode bias voltage enhances the shape of the impulse response and improves the time resolution to 1 ns. These improvements are supplemented by increases in both the amplification and the saturation current of the photomultiplier.
