European universities in transition: Issues, models and cases

Year: 2009
Type: article
Abstract: success.Munich and Barcelona did quite well over the period of this account but they had a lot going for them anyway.Dresden did not.It is plausible that policy in Turin, where there was an inheritance of a dominant but declining industry, made matters worse by trying to retain the unretainable. But policy in Lyon failed in all of its aims yet Lyon carried on doing reasonably well.I tend to agree with Kresl that governance matters: but the evidence presented in the concluding chapter to support this proposition is really not all that persuasive.
