Abstract: Inspired by the semantic-pragmatic theory of polyphony, the article investigates the dynamics of indirect speech acts. A methodological approach within the framework of catastrophe theory makes it possible to overcome some difficulties formulated by O. Ducrot in his elaboration of the theory of polyphony.
