Abstract: Genetic trends of milk and of milk fat yield were estimated from Predicted Differences of 2,491 bucks of Alpine, LaMancha, Nubian, Saanen, and Toggenburg breeds with Repeatability at least 15%.Trends were estimated by 1) weighted regression on kidding year of estimates of weighted average genetic merit of sires for each kidding year and 2) weighted regression on year of first daughter's first recorded kidding of generalized least-squares estimates of average genetic merit.Trends were variable across breeds and averaged .22% of mean for milk yield and .24% of mean for fat yield.Lack of genetic progress in most breeds is perhaps from lack of opportunity until recently to identify and use superior performance bucks.
