What's wrong with legal aid?: Lessons from outside the UK
Year: 2006
Type: preprint
Abstract: The UK spends more per capita on legal aid than any other country in the world, yet appears to reap little benefit from the expenditure in terms of reduction of criminality or disputes. Much of the drive towards spending seems to derive from lawyer generated demand. The paper examines possible ways of improving results and reducing expenditures by looking at examples from other countries.
