Ecran et culture de pauvreté. Le cas de la Réunion
Year: 1999
Type: article
Abstract: In Reunion, family cultures involving screens are set in a singular context of a fast-changing society in which tradition and modernity are meeting head-on. After questioning the relevance of applying a Euro-centred questionnaire to such a society, the article proposes an initial approach for comparing use of the media by young people in Reunion with that of similar groups in mainland France, particularly in underprivileged areas. Finally, it highlights the predominant role, in Reunion, of the press and especially of television, in the process of accompanying a young generation having to cope with major social changes.
