Early pottery kilns in the Middle East

Abstract: In this paper a current overview of the development of Neolithic and Chalcolithic pottery kilns in the Middle East is given in order to initiate further, more detailed kiln studies. In the context of early pyrotechnology several issues concerning technical, economic and social aspects of kiln construction and operation are addressed.
