Abstract: We would like to thank Dr Sartor and Dr Parker for their interest in our review article. We fully agree on the potential importance of targeting the osteoblastic niche with radioactive agents in prostate cancer, a strategy our group devised and published previously with strontium-89 ( 1 ). Although the recently reported results with radium-223 are promising, they were not available at the time of submission of our review. Our review focused only on already published phase II and III clinical trials with novel agents, and at the time of publication of the review, the findings from the phase III radium-223 trial ( ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT00699751) were only available as a meeting abstract. We look forward to learning more about the details of this trial once it is published in a peer-reviewed journal.
