Source of negative potentials in the organ of Corti

Abstract: The organ of Corti of the guinea pig was penetrated by microelectrodes filled with Niagara Sky Blue 6B dye (8%). Negative dc potentials in the organ of Corti were recorded and an attempt was made to determine the source of these potentials by iontophoretically ejecting dye. Evidence that the potentials are recorded from within cells (including hair cells) is presented.
