Year: 2006
Type: conference-abstract
Abstract: To improve the quality of prenatal ultrasound examinations for detection and to analyze the failures of prenatal diagnosis. A retrospective descriptive study, based on the data recorded into the register of fetal anomalies, between 1 October 2003, and 31 December 2005. The team of the center is composed by 7 senior doctors, specialized in OG ultrasound, 1 senior doctor neonatologist, and the equipment was ultrasound machine Siemens Elegra. During this period of time 6364 ultrasound examines were accomplished, out of which 6287 were considered as being without anomalies observable at ultrasound. As well, 68 prenatal anomalies were detected, out of with 63, 23% during the second trimester and just 7, 34% the first trimester. 45.58% of fetal anomalies were detected within the category of pregnant women between 25 and 29 years old, which represents 34.99% from all the births in our maternity hospital. We have detected 21 anomalies of central nervous system, 9 anomalies of the heart,9 genetic syndromes, 7 reno-urinary anomalies, 5 cervical hygromas, 5 deficiencies of abdominal wall closure, 6 anomalies of the spinal column, 2 anomalies of the limbs and 2 digestive anomalies. Even if were prenatal diagnosed, we failed to see 3 fetuses with Down syndrome, out of which one with anomalies; as well as, we failed 4 complex cardiac malformations. 85% of ultrasound prenatal diagnoses were confirmed during the postnatal period. In our hospital we diagnose 1, 3% of congenital anomalies only at the birth moment. To improve the detection, we aim to develop the behavior and to bring a least two ultrasound examines during the first and second trimester.
