Abstract: Management information systems (MIS) and its support to “sustainability”are outlined with a special emphasisto small and medium enterprises (SMEs) development. An overview and strategy of a sustainable MIS(SMIS) isdescribed as a measuring, managing and innovative tool for todays’ sustainable SMEs (SSMEs). SSMEs andtheir advantage over other SMEs and multinational companies (MNCs) in the light of sustainability factors aredetailed. Some existing challenges along with few limitations of SMIS are presented, along withfourrecommendations for better effectiveness of SMIS.
