Abstract: This special issue of International Journal of Andrology contains the proceedings of the 4th Copenhagen Workshop on Endocrine Disrupters. The workshop gathered researchers with different expertise, many of them world leaders in their fields. The focus of the workshop was on possible effects of exposures to endocrine disrupters present in our every day life, e.g. in our food, cosmetics and our homes. The role of mixed exposures and links between effects in laboratory animals and wildlife and humans were also addressed. The issue contains papers that together cover the role of endocrine disruption ranging from epidemiological and demographic effects to molecular and genetic effects and embracing reproductive as well as non-reproductive endocrine systems. Also papers on human exposure levels and the presence of endocrine disrupters in our daily surroundings are included. We believe that this special issue represents a broad review of the latest knowledge on the effects of endocrine disrupters and a guideline for future research needs. Edited versions of the discussions at the workshop are included following the individual papers. All papers accepted for this volume have passed the ordinary editorial process of the Journal, including a peer review process. We are grateful to Susan Svenningsen from the Workshop Secretariat in Rigshospitalet and Britt Mejer Christensen, Tina Tronier, and Anette Petersen from The University Department of Growth and Reproduction for their valuable assistance. The workshop and the publication of this special issue have been supported by a grant from the Danish Ministry of the Environment.
