Abstract: In an article published in a previous issue of this journal (VI: 1), I dealt with some of the main aspects of the Swedish iron industry during and immediately after the First World War. In this account two factors were emphasised as being of particular importance for the industry both at that time and for its future prospects: the gradual and continuous change in demand on the world market which had been under way for many years, but which had proceeded at an accelerating pace since the tum of the century; and the increased production costs in Sweden which were bound up with the rise in charcoal prices and in wages, as well as with increased capital expenditure.
