The effects of hyperglycemia on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Year: 2005
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Background: Studies of critically ill patients in intensive care settings have correlated tight glucose control with a substantial reduction in morbidity and mortality and length of hospital stay. The impact of hyperglycemia in the hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) population has not been studied. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between hyperglycemia and morbidity and mortality in HSCT patients. Methods: A retrospective chart review of 98 consecutive adult patients (age> 17 years) admitted between January 1, 2002 and October 31, 2003 to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center BMTU was performed.
