Abstract: OR adj , 35.7; 95% CI, 21.9-57.9),cohabitation or stable sexual partnership with a HCV carrier (OR adj , 13.7; 95% CI, 8.1-23.2),nosocomial exposure (hospitalization, surgery, endoscopy, dialysis, other invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures) (OR adj , 6.5; 95% CI, 4.5-9.4),unsafe sexual practices (no or occasionally condom use during occasional sexual intercourse) (OR adj , 3.0; 95% CI, 1.8-5.0),percutaneous treatments (piercing, tattooing, acupuncture, manicurist/chiropodist, attendance, barbershop shaving) (OR adj , 1.7; 95% CI, 1.2-2.5).Conclusion: AHC incidence is declining in Italy.Nowadays intravenous drug use, having a HCV-positive household or sexual partner, nosocomial exposure, unsafe sexual practices and percutaneous treatments, like piercing/tattooing, are the major determinants of virus spread. These findings once again underline the importance of using condom during occasional sexual intercourse and stress the need for strict adherence to aseptic measures during medical/surgical procedures and percutaneuos treatments. 1190
