Dense vortex plasma in type-II superconductors

Abstract: The critical behavior of quasi 2D type-II superconductors can be understood by considering an equivalent classical many-particle systems with long-ranged,multiple-body interactions. We present here a numerical Monte Carlo study of the thermodynamics and structural correlations in this dense vortex plasma (DVP). In particular, we find that fluctuations strongly renormalize the mean-field transition line ( H c2 ( T )) and evaluate a universal value of the DVP coupling constant characterizing the true transition line in all quasi 2D type-II systems. Along this line DVP undergoes a liquid-to-topological solid transition. We also present the pair-distribution function in the vicinity of the transition.
