Miniaturized Data Processing Unit for Use on Small Satellites

Abstract: High density packaging of non rad-hard commercial of the shelf (COTS) components combined with mission specific tailored shielding, error correcting codes and latchup current breakers provides a significant reduction in mass, volume, power and cost compared to the traditional approach using rad. hard components. A prototype development of a miniaturized Data Processing Unit (DPU) exhibits the potential of the approach. The traditional approach for the ROSETTA-OSIRIS DPU is taken as reference.
