Acatl : carrizo. Signo de la escritura azteca : el glifo y la planta
Year: 1986
Type: article
Abstract: In this article we present the study of the element : Acatl-reed in the Codex Mendoza in its two aspects : glyphic and botanical. A double analysis permits us to seek the data of its thematic content which defines it as a plant or a group of plants, and we try to show how the polyvalence and the multiple and superimposed functions of the glyph do not eliminate one another, nor do they hinder its functioning as a phonetic sign. This is an example of what we achieve with each of the minimal units of the Aztec system.
