Invasive Neuroradiologic Procedures for Cerebrovascular Abnormalities: Anesthetic Considerations

Year: 1997
Type: article
Abstract: Abnormalities of the cerebrovascular system are being treated with ever-increasing frequency by means of an endovascular approach. Interventional neuroradiology (INR) may be broadly defined as treatment of central nervous system (CNS) disease by endovascular access for the purpose of delivering therapeutic agents, including both drugs and devices.44 This specialty is a hybrid of traditional neurosurgery and neuroradiology, with certain overlaps with aspects of head-and-neck surgery. The scope of procedures and disease processes that are likely to be encountered is presented in Table 1. This article reviews basic concepts in treating some selected disease processes, emphasizing recent developments and the implications for anesthetic care.
