Abstract: This article discusses the importance of establishing and using performance measures with student employees in academic libraries. These measures set expectations for performance and become management tools to motivate, evaluate, and reward student employees as well as to improve student commitment and provide a sense of accomplishment in student jobs.Drawing upon management literature dealing with full-time employees, the authors modify that work to fit student employees' unique needs, specifically the fact that students are part-time and are not necessarily motivated by the work itself.
